کتاب الزکاۃ

THE FAREWELL SERMON OF THE PROPHET MUHAMMAD (PBUH)

Right before the prophet Muhammad died the prophet gave a farewell sermon, which is what we mainly call his last sermon. The prophet knew his time to pass on to the other life was near and so he gave the final sermon, the sermon was a final advice to the Muslims with him and for the generations of Muslims to come. Here is the sermon in full:

After praising and thanking Allah the Prophet (saws) said:

"O People, lend me an attentive ear, for I know not whether after this year I shall ever be amongst you again. Therefore listen to what I am saying very carefully and take these words to those who could not be present here today.

O People, just as you regard this month, this day, this city as Sacred, so regard the life and property of every Muslim as a sacred trust. Return the goods entrusted to you to their rightful owners. Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you. Remember that you will indeed meet your Lord, and that he will indeed reckon your deeds. Allah has forbidden you to take usury (interest), therefore all interest obligations shall henceforth be waived. Your capital is yours to keep. You will neither inflict nor suffer any inequity. Allah has judged that there shall be no interest and that all the interest due to Abbas ibn 'Abd'alMuttalib [the Prophet's uncle] be waived.

Every right arising out of homicide in pre-islamic days is henceforth waived and the first such right that I waive is that arising from the murder of Rabiahibn al Harithibn.

O People, the unbelievers indulge in tampering with the calender in order to make permissible that which Allah forbade, and to forbid that which Allah has made permissible. With Allah the months are twelve in number. Four of them are holy, three of these are successive and one occurs singly between the months of Jumada and Shaban.

Beware of Satan, for the safety of your religion. He has lost all hope of that he will be able to lead you astray in big things, so beware of following him in small things.

O People, it is true that you have certain rights with regard to your women but they also have rights over you. Remember that you have taken them as your wives only under Allah's trust and with His permission. If they abide by your right, then to them belongs the right to be fed and clothed in kindness. Do treat your women well and be kind to them for they are your partners and committed helpers. And it is your right that they do not make friends with anyone of whom you do not approve, as well as never to be unchaste. O People, listen to me in earnest, worship Allah, say your five daily prayers, fast during the month of Ramadhan, and give your wealth in Zakat. Perform Hajj if you can afford to.

All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over a black nor a black has any superiority over a white - except by piety and good action. Learn that every Muslim is a brother to every Muslim and that the Muslims constitute one brotherhood. Nothing shall be legitimate to a Muslim which belongs to a fellow Muslim unless it was given freely and willingly. Do not therefore do injustice to yourselves. Remember one day you will meet Allah and answer your deeds. So beware: do not stray from the path of righteousness after I am gone.

O People, no prophet or apostle will come after me, and no new faith will be born. Reason well, therefore, O People, and understand my words which I convey to you. I leave behind me two things, the Qur'an and my Sunnah and if you follow these you will never go astray.

All those who listen to me shall pass on my words to others and those to others again; and may the last ones understand my words better than those who listen to me directly. Be my witness, O Allah, that I have conveyed Your message to Your people."

Forty Women to One Man

The Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said, "A time will come when a man will go about with alms from his gold and will not find anyone to receive it. One man will be seen being followed by forty women dependant upon him on account of the scarcity of men and excess of women." [Sahih Muslim]

This hadith reveals two of the prophecies of the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) which have not been fulfilled yet. One is that wealth will be abundant and the other is that females will greatly exceed males in number. This may happen due to wars, when more males will be killed. It might be that the birth rate of females exceeds that of males. Or it may be due to any other reason. As a result of pollution with oestrogen like compounds in Britain's rivers, genetically male fish in the rivers have been found to be physically feminized in large numbers. SubhanAllah, when fitnah appears in society, nothing remains safe and everything is affected!

Least Punished

The Prophet (Sal Allahu alaihi Wa sallam) said: 

“The least punished person of the people of Hell-Fire on the Day of Resurrection will be a man under whose arch of the feet two smouldering embers will be placed, because of which his brain will boil just like Al-Mirjal (copper vessel) or a Qum-qum (narrow-necked vessel) boils with water.” 

[Sahih Bukhari]

Nobody can bear the least punishment of Hell-Fire. But whoever enters it will have to endure the punishment as there will be no death anymore. How stupid is the person who barters away the Hereafter for the enjoyment of the world. 

This is what the people of Hell-Fire will say about themselves:

“Had we but listened or used our intelligence, we should not (now) be among the Companions of the Blazing Fire!” 

[Quran 67:10] 

Hadees: Show Mercy to People

The Prophet (Sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: 

“He who does not show mercy to people, Allah also does not show mercy to him.” [Bukhari]

When we want to be mean to somebody or punish them, we are able to give ourselves a hundred justifications for it. This hadith gives us one huge compelling reason to put our anger and meanness aside, and practice forgiveness and gentleness instead. No one can do without Allah's mercy, so don't shut the door of goodness on yourself by being petty with others. It's not worth it!

Hadees: Mentioned in the Highest Circles

Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Allah says, ‘I am in accordance with the thoughts of My slave about Me; and I am with him, when he remembers Me. If he remembers Me in his heart, I also remember him in My heart. If he remembers Me in a group, I remember him in a better group (i.e. angels). If he draws near Me by the span of a palm, I draw near him by a cubit. If he draws near Me by a cubit, I draw near him by the space covered by outstretched arms. If he walks towards Me, I go to him running.’” [Sahih Bukhari]

This hadith shows how willing and eager Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) is to befriend us and draw close to us. Anybody who sincerely wants Allah in his/her life will find Him. It cannot be that a person is sincere in their search but are not guided to Allah (subhana wa ta’ala). The case of Salman Farsi is a perfect example of how the search for truth brought him to Allah (subhana wa ta’ala). It is said about him that even if Islam were to be found on the moon, he would have made his way to it. Allah has His own ways of bringing people to that which they seek. Nobody is left helpless in their search. If they are confused, it is only because they wish to remain so. 

In our everyday dhikr we should rejoice in the fact that when we remember Allah Mighty and Majestic, He takes special note of it. When we talk about Him in any gathering, He mentions us in a much superior gathering. Imagine! The most important entity that exists, discusses you with the angels.

Iman & Islam

Iman was defined by the Holy Prophet (pbuh) as:

• That you affirm your faith in Allah,

• in His Angels,

• in His Books,

• in His Apostles,

• in the Day of Judgment, and

• you affirm your faith in the Divine Decree about good and evil.

And Islam was defined as:

• to testify (Tawheed),

• prayers (Salat),

• charity (Zakat),

• to fast in Ramadan,

• pilgrimage (Hajj)

+ Ihsan "constitutes the highest form of worship" (ibadah). It is excellence in work and in social interactions. For example, ihsan includes sincerity during Muslim prayers and being grateful to parents, family, and God.

Hadees: Truth and Lies

The Messenger of Allah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ said:

“Adopt truth, for truth shows the path of righteousness, and righteousness shows the path to Paradise. A man speaks the truth regularly and adopts truthful ways till he is recorded as a truthful person before ALLAH (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى). And keep away from falsehood, for falsehood leads to wickedness, and wickedness throws in Hell. A person tells lies regularly and attaches himself to falsehood till he is recorded as a liar before ALLAH (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى).”

[Fathul Bari]

Each person ends up on one of two lists with ALLAH (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى): that of “Truthful People” or that of “Liars.”

When a person feels that lying is not an option for them, they automatically stay away from many bad things out of the realisation that if they are caught they will feel embarrassed in admitting to those deeds.

The person who realizes that on the Day of Judgement they will not have an option to lie, and that even the parts of their own bodies will speak out against them and admit to the things they were used for, will restrain himself from doing as he pleases. Such a person will adopt good conduct and eventually be admitted to Jannah because of it. Their ultimate success of admittance to Jannah will have come out of adopting truth as their policy.

On the other hand, he who feels no compunction in lying, behaves as he pleases, and will have to pay the heaviest penalty for it on the Day of Judgement.

The Ranks of Angels

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) once said to his Companions: “Would you like to stand in rank just the same as the angels stand in rank before their Lord?”

The Companions asked: “How do the angels stand in rank?”

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) replied: “They fill the first rank and they observe extreme care in standing in the rank.” [Muslim, Salaat]

The proper way to stand in rank during congregational prayers is to:

1. Stand shoulder to shoulder.

2. Leave no gaps in between.

3. Complete one rank before forming another.

4. If another Muslim tries to move you to fix your position, take it positively.

5. Don’t stand apart from the ranks of the worshippers to pray separately.

Sunan of Abu-Dawood, Hadith 1889

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “Do not abuse anyone. Do not look down upon any good work, and when you speak to your brother, show him a cheerful face.”

Feel Ashamed

Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said:

“If somebody reproaches you and makes you feel ashamed of any of your defects, do not make him feel ashamed of any of his defects.” 

[Abu Daud]

Usually, when somebody points out one of our shortcomings, we immediately become defensive and start finding faults with them. But the advice of our beloved Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam), is that we should listen quietly and evaluate what we are being told. If there is something we can improve about ourselves, it is only to our own advantage to do so. If the criticism is unjustified, then we are rewarded for our patience and good behaviour in not retaliating. The angels will take care of defending our honour. Starting a counter attack opens the door for Shaytaan to come in and take over.

The Most Priceless Treasure on Earth is Eeman

Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Allah gives worldly things to those He loves and to those He does not love, but He gives eeman (faith) only to those He loves, so he who is given eeman by Allah, has been loved by Him.” [Ahmad, Bayhaqiy]

The most priceless treasure on earth is eeman. This is the currency that will buy you eternal happiness and all the riches you want to keep forever. 

Thus, whoever is given the treasure of eeman is among the most beloved people to Allah (subhana wa ta’ala).

If something is not in your share in this worldly life (e.g. car, house, nice clothes, good food), it makes no difference. The duration of this life compared to the life that starts after this, is so short, that it will be as though it never happened. 

Material riches in this life could also be the lot of him/her who ends up for eternity in the Fire of Hell. Again, this life is so short compared to the Hereafter, that despite having every luxury in the world, a person who ends up in the Fire of Hell will say that they never experienced anything good. Thus, the only thing of real value is eeman, as this will take one to Jannah. This treasure is only given to the one whom Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) especially loves.

Reward Without Measure

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Every good deed of the son of Adam will be multiplied between ten and seven hundred times, but Allah says, ‘Except for fasting, because it is for Me and I will give the reward for it.’” [Bukhaari]

Among the actions which will be multiplied beyond measure, to an extent known only to the One Who gives the reward, is fasting.

The reason that the one who fasts will be given reward without measure is that fasting requires Sabr (patience), and those who are patient will be given reward without measure. Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) says: “Only those who are patient shall receive their reward in full, without measure.” [Surah Az-Zumar: Ayat 10]

Imaam Qurtubi said: “The scholars said, ‘Every reward will be measured and weighed out, except (the reward for) fasting, which will be poured out and heaped up.’” [Tafseer al-Qurtubi]

Change your Habits In Ramzan

Assalam Alaikum Wa Rahmath Ullahi Wa Barkatahu

Try These Proven Techniques For A Successful positive change in your habits during Ramadhaan and beyond!

 

1. Acknowledge and Identify your bad habits : First step is to admit you need to change. If you are in a state of denial, you won't recognize that you have a bad habit to change.

2. Pick a habit for this month: Prioritize your bad habits and focus on one for this month. If you are committed to changing at least one habit, you will see remarkable results, Allah-willing.

3. Realize that it's in us to change: Don't believe the old saying, "You can't teach an old dog new tricks." You can break a bad habit if you really want to. No one else can change your habits, if you don't want to.

4. Remember, Allah loves those who commit mistakes and repent:  The Noble Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:

"By Him in Whose Hand is my life, if you were not to commit sin, Allah would sweep you out of existence and He would replace (you by) those people who would commit sin and seek forgiveness from Allah, and He would have pardoned them."

 (Hadith -Sahih Muslim)

5. Intention & Plan to change: "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail." A healthy process of change in character requires a gradual pace, which entails planning. Develop concrete milestones to measure your progress.

6. Replace a bad habit with a good one: Completely eliminating a habit is more challenging than replacing it with a more productive habit. Moreover, it's crucial to replace the lost natural needs, such as the need to socialize and to be entertained with something healthy.

For instance, it's easier to replace your addiction to TV with a physical workout or reading the Qur’aan or a good Islamic book etc. Interestingly, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), the greatest 'psychologist' of humanity, illustrated this principle in these words:

"Fear Allah wherever you may be; follow up an evil deed with a good one which will wipe (the former) out, and behave good-naturedly towards people." 

(Hadith-At-Tirmidhi).

7. Change your Environment: Resist the negative peer pressure by finding a better company of friends. Collective action to change is very powerful. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) explained this peer pressure effect with the analogy:

"A good friend and a bad friend are like a perfume-seller and a blacksmith: The perfume-seller might give you some perfume as a gift, or you might buy some from him, or at least you might smell its fragrance. As for the blacksmith, he might singe your clothes, and at the very least you will breathe in the fumes of the furnace." 

(Hadith-Sahih al-Bukhari & Muslim)

8. Exercise: Spiritual exercise is important for lasting change. You may not realize that by exerting your yourself in spiritual exercises like the reading of Qur’an and Hadith, fasting, giving charity, Zikr(remembering Allah),Spending time in the Path of Allah etc helps in eliminating a number of bad habits. Through the spiritual light of doing noble deeds, evil ones will gradually be eradicated from your life. Allah says :

 "Indeed, Salah restrains from Shameful and unjust deeds" 

(Quran:29:45).

 

A person complained to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) about someone who read salaah and also committed theft .The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said "His salaat will very soon wean him off that sin.' This shows that the evil habits can be got rid of by adhering to good practises. The doing of good deeds such as remembering Allah cleanses the heart. A clean heart encourages a person to do good deeds and refrains one from evil habits!

Moreover, exercising your will power (struggle to fight temptations) for this month helps you kick all kinds of bad habits and form new good ones. Willpower is like a muscle; the more you exercise it, the more you strengthen it.

9. Think of yourself as a changed, different, new person. This simple psychological shift in your thinking about your own image can do wonders. Tell yourself, "I can't continue this ill-behaviour. I am better than that. I am stronger. I am wiser."

10. Reward success: The most fundamental law in all of psychology is the "law of effect." It simply states that actions followed by rewards are strengthened and likely to recur. Unfortunately, studies show that people rarely use this technique when trying to change personal habits.

Setting up formal or informal rewards for success greatly increases your chances of transforming bad habits into good ones, and is far more effective than punishing yourself for bad habits or setbacks. As Muslims we should also remember that the ultimate reward is Allah's Pleasure and Paradise in the Hereafter.

11. Get help: Tell someone about your effort to change if it helps. He or she may keep you on track and may offer some good advice. Read books that will encourage you to do virtues actions. Join the various (amaal) programs in your local Musjid. Ladies should endeavour to join their local Taalimi Halqas. There are good and sincere people who are ready to assist. We are not an island- We are an Ummah!

12. Boost your spiritual immune system: By fasting,doing good actions,Itikaaf(seclusion), spending time in the Musjid with the pious friends of Allah or going in the Path of Allah will boost your Imaan which will provide you with internal strength to overcome temptations to reverting to old bad habits.

13. Remind yourself of Death and Hereafter often:

 "Remember often the terminator (or destroyer) of all the pleasures(i.e. death),"

 the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)once stated. 

(Hadith-At-Tirmidhi.)

14. Resolve to continue on and follow up: Giving up bad habits or learning good habits requires regular maintenance and determination. It is a long, ongoing process, also known as "Tazkiyyah" in Islamic terminology. It's more difficult than the first few steps of change. ("How many times have I dieted, for example, only to gain the weight back?"). So ensure that you follow up. Link yourself to a good Allah-fearing Islamic Scholar, make a habit of spending time in the Path of Allah and constantly engage in noble and charitable work.

15. Develop a relapse strategy: How do you ensure not to return to your bad habit you are trying to change? Some people donate money to a good cause every time they return to sinning or a bad habit. This reminds them of the 'cost' of going back to old bad habits. Others try physically demanding acts to deter them from reverting to old ways. For example that if you do___ act than you will keep three fast or pay so much sadaqah(charity) etc

16. Ask Allah for Help (Dua): MOST IMPORTANT!-Make Asking for Allah's Help an integral part of the overall change process. Ask for Allah's Help before, during and after every attempt at kicking a bad habit. Do so sincerely, even begging and crying, like a child does when he or she really wants something. Allah is Ever-Willing to Help and to Respond to our needs, but it is us who must take the first step towards Him. Allah will NEVER disappoint us! Allah Ta’ala says “ Ask me, and I will answer your call…” 

(Quran 40:60)

"And whosoever is conscious of Allah and keeps his duty to Him, He (Allah) will make a way for him to get out (from) every (difficulty), and He will provide him from (sources) he could never imagine."

 (Quran 65:2-3)

So surely  you Can do it !!!… Just Trust and Pray to Allah and make that great change this Ramadhaan!

   

O Allah !
For Us Let This Month Of Ramadan Be A Period Of Peace,
Faith Safety And Total Submission To Thy Will;
Make Us Walk Apace Swiftly To That
Which Thou Likes And Approves.

O Allah !
Pour Out Much Blessings On Us in This Month,
Make Available For Us its Generous Good And Assistance,
And Keep Us Safe From The Harm, Evil, Misfortune And Mischief
That May Try To Trap Us in This Month.

(Allahumma Aameen)

Remember Me In Ur Supplications

Seek Help Through Patience and Prayer

O you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with the patient.

And do not say about those who are killed in the way of Allah , "They are dead." Rather, they are alive, but you perceive [it] not.

And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient,

Who, when disaster strikes them, say, "Indeed we belong to Allah , and indeed to Him we will return."

Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is those who are the [rightly] guided.

Qur'an 2:153-157

Avoid Seeking a Quick Response

You should avoid seeking a quick response, for this is one of the problems that may prevent the du’aa’ from being accepted.

It is narrated by Abu Hurayra (R.A)

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said:

“One of you may be answered so long as he is not hasty and says, ‘I said du’aa’ but I got no response.’” 

[Al-Bukhaari, 6340; Muslim, 2735.]

Newly Invented

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

“The most truthful of speech is the Book of Allah and the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad, and the most evil of things are those which are newly-invented.”

And he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

“Whoever innovates anything in this matter of ours (i.e., Islam), that is not part of it will have it rejected.”

[Bukhaari 2697]

Better and Lasting

Do you really know what the entire world is worth compared to Paradise? You would think that all the money and amazing cars, the glorious palaces and servants, and traveling to the most scenic beaches is the height of satisfaction right? Well, it’s not. It’s not even worth the tiniest place in the vast grandeur of Paradise! You can be given every sort of pleasure today, right this moment, but it would melt in comparison to the pleasure of the Hereafter. Don’t make this world your final goal and throw away your enduring happiness. Don’t think for a second that money, cars, and houses is what we live for. If it really mattered to Allah, he would have given everyone these pleasures. What He wants for us is far better and lasting. Keep working for it and try to imagine from time to time your place in Paradise. You’ll soon know why you sacrificed everything for it, Insha’Allah.

The Prophet (salah allahu ‘alayhi wa salam) said, “A (small) place equal to an area occupied by a whip in Paradise is better than the (whole) world and whatever is in it.” [Bukhari]

Each One Of You Will Be Questioned About His Responsibility

Both men and women are answerable before ALLAH سبحانه وتعالى for their responsibility.

Ibn 'Umar رضي الله ﺗﻌﺎﻟﯽٰعنه reported that the Prophet Muhammad صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ said:

“Each one of you is entrusted with a responsibility, and each one of you will be questioned about his responsibility. The ruler is responsible (for his people), and will be questioned about his responsibility. The man is responsible for his family, and will be questioned about his responsibility. The women is responsible for her husband's house, and will be questioned about her responsibility. The servant is responsible for his master's property, and will be questioned about his responsibility. And a man is responsible for his father's wealth, and will be questioned about his responsibility. Thus, each one of you has a responsibility, and each one of you will be questioned about his responsibility. ”
